After taking up classical guitar at age seven, Armik's lifelong love
affair with the flamenco guitar began on his first visit to Spain at
age 20, when he saw the legendary Paco de Lucia perform. Driven by a
fire for the tradition that has defined his musical life ever since,
the *removed**removed**removed**removed**removed* musician immediately switched from his electric Gibson
CS175, trading his Wes Montgomery licks for an in-depth journey to the
heart of Spanish music. For years, he traveled to Spain frequently to
play and study with various classical and flamenco musicians. "When I
first touched a flamenco guitar and heard the sound, I realized I
could talk through my instrument," Armik remembers fondly.
-In 1994, Armik launched his solo career with seven
critically-acclaimed recordings, many of which hit the Billboard
charts. His visionary compositions and performances cover an entire
range of provocative Spanish folk melodies honed throughout his
formative years, to his delicate balancing of flamenco and classical
guitar, to the Latin, gypsy and jazz influences that listeners hear in
his music today.
AMOR DE GUITARRA¹s 11 breath-taking musical sketches are truly vivid,
and vary in sumptuous flamenco and Latin jazz tones that Armik
contrasts with gorgeous acoustic instrumental improvisations. The
guitars featured on this recording were selected from Armik¹s personal
collection of over 45 custom, hand-made flamenco guitars; the amazing
assemblage of top-of-the-line instruments enables Armik to forge an
authentic signature sound unlike any other player in the world.
