Harley-Davidson Extravaganza Flops a Few Different Ways

Harley-Davidson Extravaganza Flops a Few Different Ways

Overall the weekend was a sucess though. Don't get the
wrong idea from this one bad review, ok?

I just heard that Elton John got booed a lot last night by the
hundreds
of thousands of people inside a show where I watched from outside.
I knew he was booed bigtime out in the streets but we heard neither
applause nor jeers from those inside. Only whatever the huge screens
and speakers were pumping out at us.
I also heard there was a second mass exodus out of the stadium when
he began playing. The staffer who told me this morning wasn't aware
of the first one when Tim McGraw took the stage. We saw everyone
leaving
and walking by us. Some were complaining out loud about everything
from the placement being bad, to not liking who was playing. I think
when people left the first time, there were still lots of people
entering, which might explain why he wasn't aware of the first
exodus, since it looked normal inside at that point.

But I'll give some more tidbits and then get right to the point.
Elton's "girlfriend" or "wife" almost didn't get allowed in by
security
until a staffer came up and cleared that up.
The person informing me of this also mentioned that Faith Hill was
dressed down and just wandered around the park all day and night
enjoying
going unnotticed. Which is weird because her husband was one of the
"mystery guests" that Harley-Davidson keeping sooooooo guarded. And
you'd think she was risking unwittingly confirming that.
Anyhow, here's how I got all this. I was wandering around this
morning
among the aftermath hoping I might find some tossed out laminates, or
any other assorted souvenirs. I didn't find much of that, but I did
manage to gather up pages 11-28 of the 29-page script they were using
onstage.
Check out some of these juiciest of highlights from the script:

[ooh, I should've asked the staffer about how downright drunk and
disorderly Dan Akroyd was. If it was an act, or was he really wacked
out of his gourd like he seemed. ]

#3-18 ...and we also have the one and only Jay Leno. He was in town
Tuesday... running wild on the streets of Milwaukee.
#4-16 But first and always - it's about people. Take a look at
this special piece of video...
#4-17 TAPE MDA TEAR JERKER
#4-18 There are 91 MDA summer camps nationwide and every year...
#4-25 Tease drawing
This should happen on side of set so you can't see seating area

Laura - we dropped a line here. Take it out of the prompter
Frana

#4-26 Akroyd not in here.
....has relationships with police departments that go back a long,
long way...
....and it donated thirty motorcycles to law enforcement in the New
York and New Jersey area [after 911]

#5-02 We started more than three hours ago and this place is only
[a percentage] full... Now as you can see, we're filling it...

But first, we want to replay a video from earlier today... a
welcoming message from our nation's capitol from President
George W. Bush.

#5-11 That was also a great piece on Harley-Davidson and the
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

#5-17 Have you heard all the rumors?
Jay Leno, here?
Who's the headliner for tonight?
How many headliners?
What's the buzz?
Toss to final trivia question of the show.

#5-18 Trivia question #13
#5-19 Tape commercial
#5-20 Tape Leno Archives

A few observations:

Leno was not there. Tuesday was his only day.
Harley doesn't really have to care who left during McGraw's
performance OR who left during Elton. They should, but they
don't have to.
They gave a lot of "talent" and a lot of "information."
They made all the money they were possibly going to make
already by the time the concert was under way. Both for
themselves and for MDA.
There was a blue handout given to as many people as possible
which said fotos weren't allowed, what to do for first-aid,
lost and found, etc. And guess what else it said?

Guest Image -
Admission constitutes release. By entering, guests authorize
use of likeness, name and voice.

Oh yeah, I mentioned to the staffer that a journalist last
week wrote that if Harley doesn't deflate the rumors of the
Stones being headliner, and the mystery guest turns out to
be someone like Elton John, there might be a riot Harley
will need to take some level of responsibility for.

He didn't know about the article, but he did mention that
when they found out it was going to be Elton, (I'm guessing
about 8:30 am) security was as ready as they could possibly
be for that possibility of riot the whole rest of the day.

Couple side notes:

"Added Benny." Dan Akroyd stayed at the Pfister last night.
He didn't seem drunk, stoned or hung over at all this morning
according to people who waved goodbye.
Christina Aguilera stayed at the Hyatt last night too.
She plays at the Bradley center tonite.
"Justin stayed at the Pfister last night," said one fan
waiting outside to see Christina. "He already went to the
Bradley." There are about 79 people waiting there to see
her come out of the hotel and get in her tourbus.
One squad car and one motorcycle cop showed up right
before she exited. The drove up between the crowd and
the bus. You know what? Only in Milwaukee.
Get this. She came out of the hotel into her tour bus,
drove TO the Bradley.
No, here's what I mean. Quick left, quick right, 3
blocks, a left, pull in, go get ready to perform.
Ummm.
Define decadence for me.
No, for yourself maybe.
OK, for all of us.
Yeah, that's it.

Kiss FM has 6 youth playing an impromptu football game.
3 on 3. 3 girls are wearing long pants, tanktops, and
see through tops over the tanks. 3 are wearing pink
boxer shorts, tie-dyed pink and white, and white cotton
tank tops with "103 point whatever" platered all over
the front and back in sparkly sillystring type paints.

I wonder if any of these kids will ever figure out that
Christina and Justin can't really sing too well at all?

Actually, I really wonder if it will ever matter to them?

ps - final note:

I have to say this one thing. I did a ton of mountainbike riding
around town all weekend. This is the safest I've EVER felt riding
bicycle in a major city.
Hundreds of thousands of bikers in town made me safer?
That sounds absolutely crazy, but it was true.

Harley-Davidson rocks!
