JVC DR-MV(1|5)s

I'm still after either a unit with a VHS recorder and
a DVD recorder in it, or possibly separate units if
this is sensible (transferring VHS to DVD required).

I was looking at the JVC DR-MV1. This seems to have a
number of issues. Someone mentioned that a "DR-MV5" is
available, and should be reliable. What's the difference?

There are a couple of intrinsic problems with "all-in-one" units be
they VCR/DVDR, printer/scanner/faxes or whatever. When one part goes
wrong you've pretty much lost the whole thing, and they usually can't
do two things at once.

I would buy a good DVDR with hard drive and a separate ultra-cheap
VCR, perhaps even a used one. Once you have transferred all your old
recordings to DVDR then I will bet that you will never use the VCR
part again. I don't think that I've used mine since 2004, and it is a
very good quality S-VHS unit.
